Definition of Word, Phrase, Clause and Sentence

Definition of Word, Phrase, Clause and Sentence

In making a sentence, of course, there are several parts that are needed in its formation. What are these parts?

A word is a collection of several letters that have meaning or meaning. Examples: r-u-n (run), b-i-k-e (bicycle), m-i-l-k (milk)

A phrase is a combination of two or more words that do not have a Subject or Predicate. Example: My book, Blue Shirt, A kind old man.

Clauses are a combination of two or more words (phrases) that already have a Subject and Predicate or Object but do not provide complete information. Example:

My book (as Subject) is (predicate) new (object)

A sentence is a combination of words, phrases, and clauses and provides complete information.

 Example:

My book (as Subject) is (predicate) new (object). I (subject) bought (predicate) it (object) yesterday (adverb).

The purpose of understanding this is to make it easier for us to construct sentences with sentence pattern rules, especially in making English sentences. Thus the definition of Words, Phrases, Clauses, and Sentences, hopefully can provide a good enough understanding in learning to make English sentences.
